Test #2 results and distribution
Here is the combined (sections -003 and -004) results for the second test.
mean = 22.8 out of 35 (65%) Yeah, lousy.
median = 23 (mean and median are close. good.)
mode = 24.5 (ooo...a bit of a positive skew)
standard deviation = 4.7 (13.45%. Ah, the skew. This means several of the bad scores were really bad)
Yes, all of these summary measures is informative. It helps me see how the classes did as a group and how difficult the test is as an individual instrument. Was it a tough test? Apparently. But a few really good scores tells me that it wasn't unfair.
So here is a scale you can use for interpretation**
A range: 28 +
B range: 23 - 27.5
C range: 18 - 22.5
D range: 15-17.5
F range: below 15
Comments:
**Keep in mind, it is your raw score that has been entered into the grade book, not the percentage score or the letter grade. The ONLY letter grade of particular relevance is the one I give at the end of the semester after all work has been completed.
Should you drop the course? As stated on the syllabus, if you are not earning at least 50% average on all assignments you should not expect to pass this course. If you're earning 50%-65% you are flirting with a pretty poor grade. Either get on track (there is hope) or get out and cut your losses (I'm an economist and I respect that). The last day to drop is Wednesday, March 29.
