Answer Key to sample problems for test 3

Here is the key to the sample problems for test 3 (found on the I-drive). The handout with some problems relating to excise taxes is on the I-drive, as well as suggested solutions.

1-D, 2-C, 3-D, 4-A, 5-C, 6-D, 7-C,
8-A, 9-D, 10-B, 11-A, 12-B, 13-B,
14-B, 15-B, 16-B, 17-A,
18-B, 19-B, 20-C, 21-C, 22-A, 23-D, 24-C,
25-B, 26-D, 27-D, 28-A, 29-B, 30-C, 31-B,
32-C, 33-B, 34-A, 35-D, 36-C, 37-B, 38-C,
39-C, 40-D, 41-none of the above.

For 41, the answer would be "Panel A; buyers" which is not among the alternatives. Sorry about that.

Test 2 and Midterm grades

Here is the "approximate" grade scale for Test 2:

Based on raw scores out of 40 points,

A range: 33.5 and higher
B range: 28.5 - 33
C range: 24.5 - 28
D range: 24 and lower
no Fs.

I've said it before and I'll say it again as I still have people who don't fully understand the information. You can NOT come back to me and say (and I will definitely correct you), "I got a C on the first test and a B on the second test. Can I still get an A." I DO NOT RECORD THESE GRADES. THIS GRADE SCALE IS ONLY A GUIDE. I GIVE THE SCALE SO YOU CAN HAVE FULL INFORMATION ON HOW YOUR SCORE FALLS IN THE ASSESSED QUALITY OF YOUR WORK. Yes, I am yelling there. I give the scale so you know how low or how high you are in these ranges. There can be a lot of difference between a "high" C and a "low" C that just saying you got a C cannot tell me if you can get an A or not.

Get it?

There is only one grade you get. That is the final grade.

Having said that, IF I WERE TO GIVE GRADES AT THIS POINT (notice my measured language here), here would be the grade scale I'd likely use. (You can find your points to date out of a possible 49 points in red on your test 2 printout sheet from the multiple choice problems.)

A: 42 and higher
B: 37 to 41.99
C: 32 to 36.99
D: below 32.

At this point, no one in the class would be failing.

Caveats: There are a few people who have not taken one or more of the tests to date. I cannot give you any information on your prospective grade. You're on your own here. Those points values (20 percentage points per test) get added to the value of the COMPREHENSIVE EXAM you will need to take.

I will also reiterate at this point: Do not ask for an earlier final exam. Your exam is scheduled for Tuesday, December 14, 12:30 - 2:30. (Note: I mis-typed the time for the final as 10:15 on the syllabus. It is 12:30, as per the registrar's schedule.)

The only adjustments to the final exam time is if you have more than 3 finals scheduled on the same day.

Stay strong.
